Previous Jeep Wrangler Model Years
2023
There are a few different updates for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler model year. The Freedom edition receives some new decals and badges and an updated steel front bumper and rock rails. Meanwhile, the Rubicon model got unique new 17-inch wheels. A couple of paint colors were also replaced.
2022
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler saw everything from infotainment updates to performance capability enhancements. The Rubicon model received a 4.88 axle ratio when paired with the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine. A premium audio system was included with the 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen on the Sahara and Rubicon models. Remote proximity keyless entry became standard on Sahara and Rubicon models as well.
2021
In 2021, 80th Anniversary and Islander editions joined the lineup for a limited release. A variety of engines were updated for the Wrangler lineup, and a forward-facing off-road camera was added. Off-roading was also made more fun because Off-Road Plus was added to the Wrangler Rubicon model for this model year.
2020
For this model year, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler added several new trim packages as well as three optional add-on packages. A diesel engine was also introduced, while a 3.6L V6 engine was set as standard across the 2020 Wrangler lineup. The Wrangler Freedom Edition was extended for the 2020 model year, which honors those in the U.S. military.
2019
The Wrangler remained mostly the same for the 2019 model year, with the exception of a couple of elements. Drivers who chose the Advanced Safety Group Package could expect adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning to be included. A unique exterior color option was also made available: turquoise pearl dubbed “Bikini.”
2018
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler was the year of the massive redesign including updated styling, a new engine lineup, and more interior space. Interestingly, the new and old Wrangler designs were sold as 2019 models, each getting its own designation. Wrangler JL refers to the redesigned Wrangler, while Wrangler JK refers to the old design. The 2018 Wrangler JL is longer, wider, and taller than the Wrangler JK, and is available with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6L V6 engine is standard, while a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine — brand new for the 2018 model year — is optional.
2017
Because Jeep had already been focusing on a significant update for the 2018 model year, the 2017 Jeep Wrangler was largely untouched from 2016. The 2017 Wrangler included LED headlights and fog lamps as standard features on the Sahara and Rubicon trim packages, and optional on Wrangler Sport models.
